A senior jail official told the Lahore High Court Tuesday that 534 supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) are still languishing in jails.
Punjab Police Prisons Inspector General in a report provided information about the political detainees.
The LHC ordered the home secretary to decide about the arrested PTI and PAT members. Justice Qasim Khan of LHC heard the case.
According to the written report of the IG Jails, a total of 3,509 members of PTI and PAT were arrested from August 1 to September 5, but now 225 members of PTI and 309 PAT members are still in custody.
The Court said that if the arrested members were not released then it will order the Punjab government to pay them daily wages.
