*PAT given a week to reply to plea filed to ban party
A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday again issued notices for September 29 to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) on a plea seeking directions to ban it.
The court also issued notice to the LHC registrar and sought report of Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission.
The full bench comprising Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan, Justice Shahid Hameed Dar and Justice Anwaarul Haq was hearing the petition filed by Amjad Ali through counsel Fahad Ahmad Siddiqui.
As proceedings started, a federal law officer told the bench that the Punjab home secretary was asked to forward the report of Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission but still it was not received.
However, he apprised that compact discs (CDs) of Dr Tahir ul Qadri’s disputed speeches had been received and could be submitted. But, the bench directed the law officer to submit CDs along with transcripts for which the law officer sought time.
The bench also noted that the petitioner did not deposit process fee for issuance of notices. The bench directed the petitioner to deposit the same within three days and again issued notices to respondents while adjourning the matter till September 29.
The petitioner submitted that Dr Tahirul Qadri’s provocative speeches were creating a law and order situation and it was the reason for loss of lives in the Model Town incident. He pleaded the court to issue directions to ban PAT while referring to Justice Akhtar Hassan Commission report about Dr Tahirul Qadri.
