Belarus is interested in broadening trade with Pakistan as both countries have good potential to expand bilateral trade and economic relations in multiple fields, said HE Andrei Ermolovich, the newly-appointed ambassador of Belarus to Pakistan. He was interacting with businessmen during his visit to Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He said for the first time the embassy of Belarus was being established in Pakistan.
He said the exports of Belarus to Pakistan were confined to limited items including tractors, their tyres and spare parts, chemical fibres, and petro chemicals and identified agriculture, energy, IT, steel and furniture as the other potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.
He said Chambers of Commerce of Pakistan and Belarus should enhance direct interactions and sign MoUs to explore new areas of mutual collaboration. He was hopeful that planned establishment of railway links between Pakistan and Turkey will greatly facilitate promotion of trade between Pakistan and Belarus as it will shorten the trade route and provide better access to Pakistan to Scandinavian countries.
In his welcome address, Shaban Khalid, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry, said that Pakistan was looking for new markets and trade partners and the government had offered attractive incentives to foreign investors and added that it was high time for the companies of Belarus to explore Pakistan for investment and joint ventures in areas of mutual interest.
