2 high value target killers nabbed

Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo and in-charge of the ongoing targeted operation against the criminals in the city disclosed in a press conference that police had nabbed a couple of high value paid assassins from city’s West and Central districts.

Addressing a press conference at the Capital City Police Office, the AIG said New Karachi Police during snap-checking nabbed Kashif Ali Khan alias Kala, an alleged target killer having association with a political party was arrested from Saleem Centre area in North Karachi.

The arrested killer during preliminary investigation confessed to the investigators that he along with his companions including Azeem, Iqbal and Joji killed 13 people belonging to different political parties and a constable in nine acts of targeted killings in different parts of district Central and West including New Karachi, Bilal Colony and Surjani.

Talking about the arrested suspect’s involvement in the recent acts of targeted killing, Thebo said the accused along with his companion killed three men associated with the Jamaat-e Islami including Azhar alias Ajay, 2 of Ajay’s friends, Riaz and Nadeem Balouch in Surjani. Earlier also in Surjani, he and his companions killed Azhar alias Ajay’s father, Hanif Ansari, while another JI activist Abdul Rasheed Farooqi was killed in Bilal Colony.

Besides, he also confessed to killing three workers of the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek – Ali alias Picket, Razzak Mamu and Asif – in two separate acts of targeted killings in Bilal Colony. Pakistan People’s Party Cultural Wing president Rana Amir was also killed by the accused and his companions in Bilal Colony.

The accused also confessed to have killed Nadeem Mota and Muhammad Ali in New Karachi over suspicion of being police informant while a cop Khurram Kamal was also killed by them in New Karachi area.

The AIG also shared details about another alleged target killers involved in sectarian killings, Obaid Ali from Nagan Chowrangi area. The accused revealed to have killed at least 11 in 7 acts of targeted killings. He had also been involved in targeted killing of Intelligence Bureau (IB) Deputy Director Qamar Abbas in FC Area in district Central in July 2012. Later, in Nov 2012, Syed Asad Raza, the eldest son of slain IB Deputy Director, was also shot dead in Sharifabad area.

Thebo also disclosed that an employee of NED University of Engineering and Technology was taken into police custody on suspicion of alleged involvement in targeted murder of University of Karachi Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof Shakeel Auj.

He said another varsity professor, who was questioned about Prof Auj’s assassination, could not give satisfactory answers to the investigators but he was not held so far. Thebo said that police were away from ongoing investigations on attack on Pakistan Navy Dockyard as Pak Navy investigators were conducting the probe and police would cooperate if formally asked for assistance in the investigations.

He said the code of conduct regarding collection of hides of the sacrificial animals would be implemented in letter and spirit and the ban on pillion riding was under consideration during Eid holidays.

He said during the current year terrorists had killed 120 cops and police officers while police and Rangers executed many target killers in encounters while many were arrested.
