HANGU-
At least four people, three policemen among them, were shot dead in a suspected militant attack in a remote area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hungu district on Monday.
According to officials, the attack took place in Qazi Pump area where unknown gunmen opened fire on a police mobile close to a check post, killing three policemen on the spot.
Another person, who was critically injured, later died. Their bodies were shifted to district hospital in Hangu.
Police and security forces cordoned off the area and started search operation; however, the attackers had managed to escape.
No group claimed responsibility, but militants hiding in the lawless border areas have carried out such attacks in the past.
Pakistan Army is carrying out a major offensive against them in North Waziristan Agency bordering Afghanistan.
On Sunday, a local leader of Maula Fazl Urrehman’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Maulana Sher Alam, was shot dead in the same district.
