*73 people diagnosed for dengue in Punjab

Dengue patient’s toll has reached 73 in the province as three more cases have diagnosed in Rawalpindi.

The report stated that the dengue virus spread is again on the rise due to recent rains and flood. As many as 73 patients have been diagnosed with the disease.

Three new cases have appeared in Rawalpindi in last 24 hours and patients have admitted to Holy Family hospital.

ALL JAILS OF LAHORE REGION FUMIGATED THRICE AGAINST DENGUE:

Meanwhile, all jails of the Lahore region have been fumigated thrice against dengue with the cooperation of local health authorities.

Lahore Region Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Mubashar Ahamd Khan said on Sunday that jail medical officers were appointed as focal persons for anti-dengue measures.

He said all jail superintendents had been directed to arrange in advance medicines for dengue haemorrhagic fever.

“Any prisoner with symptoms of dengue fever would be treated on emergency basis,” he said.

He highlighted that on the special directive of the Punjab chief secretary, during the first phase, all barracks, kitchens, factories, mosques, residential colonies, jail offices, interview sheds, lavatories, lawns and adjoining areas were sprayed thoroughly under the supervision of medical officers and superintendent jails concerned.

He said instructions were conveyed to ensure early completion of third phase of spray on priority with the co-operation of local health authorities.

Khan said that all the jailers had been asked to ensure use of mosquito nets and repellants in the barracks to avoid dengue fever.

Meanwhile, Kotlakhpat Central Jail Senior Superintendent Asad Javed Warraich said that fumigation was being monitored on day-to-day basis in jails and all out efforts were being made to protect prisoners and jailers along with their families from dengue fever.

When contacted, Camp Jail Senior Superintendent Shahram Tauqir Khan said that all the jails have been fumigated properly twice in line with the IG’s instructions.
