Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khushbakht Shujaat has said that the establishment of smaller units on administrative basis is inevitable.

She said the demand was inescapable and establishment of new units had become need of the hour. “Today the people demanding these administrative units are in thousands, tomorrow they will be in millions,” said the MQM leader.

Addressing a huge rally at ‘Teen Talwar’ on Saturday, Khushbakht Shujaat said if the rulers wanted the country to flourish, they would have to form new administrative units. She criticised the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) for passing statements opposing new units.

The MQM leader said they had gathered to protest against the unjust distribution of resources, adding it seemed as if Sindh was not a part of the PTI’s manifesto.

“The PTI leaders passed statements which entirely sidelined the Sindh province. Imran Khan should ask for an explanation from party leaders for making such statements,” said Khhushbakht.

She said if the country was to be kept intact, new provinces would have to be created, however, she acknowledged that currently the issues and resources were not balanced.

Khushbakht said: “We are talking in favour of the entire country and its integrity”.

The MQM leader said that today the people of Karachi and the civil society were protesting against the biased statements of few elements which were based on enmity with Sindh.

She said the metropolitan city generating 70 per cent revenue of the country could not be left high and dry.

Khushbakht Shujaat said they did not talk of differences on ethnic or any other basis. “We want justified distribution of resources. Demanding new provinces on administrative basis is our democratic and constitutional right. We have rendered great sacrifices for Pakistan and we have lived with this pride, but we cannot live on with this pride alone,” said the MQM leader.

She stated further that this was the first step in order to make some people understand their demand.

Khushbakht said this massive rally showed that the people of Karachi were aware of their rights.

“It is neither a rally nor a political congregation or sit-in. It is a gathering of civil society,” the MQM leader remarked.

  1. Madam better to work for local councils and for their complete administrational as well as financial independence rather that creating new provinces. Let the people develop their own small areas as localo councils. Small provinces can be evil thinking to break Pakistan because the it will be a division based upon ethnic grounds and many provinces are not going to accept that. Small local councils can have their own education, Health, Welfare, employment and many more departments to solve the problem of the people without interference od provinces as well as the central government.
