The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has demanded that the government immediately introduce electoral reforms and ECP Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan has presented the recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms.

ECP has advised the government to make amendments in Article 224 to introduce biometric system and e-voting machine. It has also recommended that expatriate Pakistanis be allowed to vote in the elections.

The commission has also recommended that census should be declared mandatory before the next general elections as ECP wants to redefine constituencies before the next elections after the census.

The commission has advised the government to extend the time period between dissolution of assemblies and conduction of elections from 30 days to 40 days, besides recommending that ECP be made to issue the final polling scheme 60 days prior to the elections and polling staff be given maximum authority.

ECP has also suggested that Reserved Seats in the Parliament be awarded according to the number of votes received by a party instead of number of seats won by it.
