Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended an official for illegally upgrading the seat of a domestic servant of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif from Economy to Business Class on a London-bound flight on Sept 16.

Sabir Hussain, a supervisor of the PIA passenger service, was suspended for three days and banned from entering the airport premises during this period after it was revealed that he had facilitated the seat upgrade of Maryam’s maid Rubina to Business Class on flight PK-757.

A case was also reportedly registered against Sabir Hussain for illegally facilitating the maid, causing financial loss to the national airliner and unjust use of authority.
According to details of the incident that took place on Sept 16, the captain of the London-bound flight PK-757 refused to fly the aircraft until Rubina was sent back to the Economy Class.
The maid’s ticket was purchased for Economy Class but once on board the aircraft, the premier’s daughter had the flight crew bump up her up to Business Class, seating her next to a senior bureaucrat.
The bureaucrat protested, not knowing that the maid worked for the premier’s family, and approached the aircraft’s captain to complain when the cabin crew did not move the woman back to Economy Class. Ironically, the senior bureaucrat himself had been upgraded from Economy to Business.
When the matter reached him, the captain disallowed the move, despite it being the premier’s daughter. Interestingly, the senior bureaucrat was not sent back to Economy Class.
Maryam Nawaz has denied on twitter that any such incident had taken place on board the flight in which she, her mother and her three children were travelling to London, but the suspension letter of the PIA official has laid bare the fact.

  1. And who was this senior bureaucrat? He claims privileges for himself, and denies them for others? He is supposed to be a servant of pakistan, treating all people equally.

  2. The elite humbled, because the maid represents the elite of Pakistan, while the "principled" bureaucrat who couldnt tolerate being seated next to a lowly maid represents the "common man". RIP sanity.

  3. The bureaucrat should have been asked to go back to economy class as well. Since it did not happen, it would only be fair to say that whoever upgraded his seat from economy to business class should be asked to pay for it.! Its as simple as that!

  4. Most disgusting part of the story is certainly the mysterious senior bureaucrat who managed to keep his seat and privacy but got rid of the poor maid who was denied the same on basis of her social status.Would he have had the same objection I wonder if the poor woman was not a maid ??? I would say maryam comes out better in thi for her consideration of at least trying to give good treatment to the maid

  5. The real victim is poor PIA personal. How could he possibly refuse the ‘orders’ of the ‘princess’. That way he would ve lost his job, permanently.
