Hungry flood victims looted food items from a camp in Jhang after waiting three days for Punjab CM who was scheduled to distribute relief packets himself
Hungry and annoyed people looted relief items at a flood relief camp and those finding nothing in the exercise started snatching the bags of goods from the lucky ones who could get hold of a few.
According to reports, Jhang district administration made a large number of people wait under the sun from 10am till 1pm telling them that provincial chief minister would distribute relief items among them.
That was too much for the patience of the poor people who were without food for the last three days due to raging floods in their area. The administration had kept some relief bags in tents and a truck load of items was waiting for the chief minister to distribute the goods. They could not wait for long as Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was visiting another flood affected area.
The people suddenly started looting the goods by boarding the truck. It was a free-for-all attempt as the police looked helpless. Others who had knowledge of stored relief items rushed to the camps and took away everything. Still many who could not get the booty started snatching from those who managed to get some relief items.
In the meantime, the chief minister reached the camp and directed the administration to bring in more relief goods for the affected people. He made a brief address to the affectees and assured them that the government would meet all their needs. He also took serious notice of short supply.
Meanwhile, people complained that while there were 500,000 affected people, the administration brought 5,000 to 7,000 packets of relief items that were quite insufficient.
