In an interesting twist, Faisalabad police claimed Wednesday that a “sub-inspector” who joined the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Tuesday was not a police official.
A spokesman for the city police said that no policeman in the department has been given belt number 861. “No record of Yasir Javed exists in the district record,” the spokesman added.
On Tuesday evening, Javed claimed that he had resigned as police sub-inspector and joined PTI sit-in that is continuing in Islamabad for over a month now.
He was believed to be part of Faisalabad police but the police spokesman said that Javed is a resident of Khanewal’s area of Shamkot.
Javed, who arrived at protest sit-in in a police uniform, was taken on shoulders by jubilant PTI supporters amid anti-government slogans.
