Inqilab march has achieved 50pc of its targets: PAT chief

*Qadri claims half of ‘Inqilab’ march’s targets have been achieved following registration of FIR in murder case against PM Nawaz, others

*Says ‘rotten system’ would be hanged along with PM and Punjab CM

*Calls for formation of JIT to probe Model Town, Aug 30 clashes between police and protesters

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri has said that half of the targets of ‘Inqilab’ march have been achieved following the registration of First Information Report (FIR) against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, federal ministers and other high-ups in a case pertaining to murder of protesters late in August in Islamabad.

Addressing his supporters at the party’s sit-in in, Qadri said, “A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) should be formed to probe into the Model Town clashes and clashes in Islamabad on the night of August 30 because we do not trust the police anymore,” adding that police is playing in the government’s hands.

He demanded immediate arrest of PM Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, federal ministers and Islamabad Police former inspector general who were nominated in the FIR while adding that the PM and Punjab CM are not provided constitutional cover to evade legal enquiry and action.

“How can a person remain a PM if a murder case is registered against him?” Qadri questioned.

OF PRIME MINISTERS WHO RESIGNED:

Qadri said PM Sharif should follow in the steps of South Korean PM who resigned on “moral grounds” even though he had no link with the ferry-sinking tragedy which claimed the lives of dozens of people in South Korea.

Qadri said that PM Sharif could also take a leaf out of a former Libyan PM’s book who resigned a few days back to end the political crisis in his country after a few thousand people took to the streets against the government’s poor governance.

Responding to the PM’s statement that he could not resign over the demand of mere “5,000 people”, the PAT chief said that “thousands of people representing millions of Pakistanis” were sitting in Islamabad and demanding his registration for a month.

Qadri said that all opposition leaders in the Parliament criticised the government, adding that though no opposition parliamentarian supported the march, they indirectly backed the marchers’ demands.

Qadri said that PAT has sparked an “ideological and thought-provoking revolution” and claimed that the “struggle” of PAT workers is exposing the rulers’ corruption.

Expressing anger over the rotten system of the country, the PAT leader said the system would also be hanged along with the PM and Punjab CM.

A double-murder case was registered Wednesday against PM Sharif, Punjab CM Shahbaz, and other high-ranking officials after PAT pressed fresh murder charges for the deaths of three people in clashes with the police that took place on the night of August 30 after protesters allegedly attempted to storm the Prime Minister’s House and used cranes to remove barricades.
