Heavy traffic on IJP Poad is not only creating hardships for the people but is damaging the road badly.
The IJP Road, one of the busiest roads in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, is also an example of traffic rush where vehicles of all sort, especially heavy vehicles, run throughout the day.
Heavy vehicles have turned the IJP Road in dilapidated condition and also creating hardships for the motorists.
Many bus terminals are located on this road which means heavy traffic plying around the clock without any break.
A traffic police official has claimed that approximately 200,000 vehicles use the road daily.
The heavy traffic from Pirwadhai, Ninth Avenue, Double Road, Pindora Chungi towards Faizabad use the IJP Road which result in constant traffic jams during rush hours.
The traffic jam and no rest for the road is turning the road in miserable condition and deep ditches and uneven surface could be observed while travelling on this road.
The dilapidated condition of the road is also damaging the vehicles and motorists are badly suffering, especially at night time.
The motorists continue to suffer due to the poor condition of the road, which also contributes to traffic mess and accidents.
A motorist, Zahid Majeed, urged CDA to repair the road and install road signs. He said that several accidents had also occurred due to poor and not traffic worthy condition of the said road.
Muhammad Naveed, another motorist, said the road is used by both heavy and light traffic which is further breaking it down. He held the CDA responsible for the dilapidated condition of the road and said that there was a dire need for the early repair work.
“Not only the repair but also the up-gradation and of the road is need of the hour as hundreds and thousands of motorists use this road,” he maintained.
Another motorist said that the road should be expanded to accommodate the ever increasing number of vehicles.
The motorists and transporters demanded of the chairman CDA to order repair and expansion of the IJP Road on priority basis.
Another factor adding fuel to the fire is the encroachments on the both sides of the road which goes unchecked by the concerned authorities.
If, ever the civic body removes the encroachments, double number of trespassers and encroacher occupy the road which creates hurdle for the smooth flow of traffic.
