LAHORE-

All-rounder Shahid Afridi has been appointed as the captain of Pakistan T-20 team till 2016,  Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Tuesday.

One-Day International and Test squad captaincy will stay with Mishbahul Haq, it added.

In the press release released today, PCB stateed that the slot remained vacant after Muhammad Hafeez resigned from T20 captaincy following the ICC World T20 held in Bangladesh earlier this year.

According to sources, PCB Chairman  consulted the Cricket Committee and board members for appointing captains for the formats.

Afridi’s first assignment will be a lone Twenty20 game against Australia in Dubai on October 5 followed by two more games against New Zealand in the United Arab Emirates in December.

Shahid Afridi was handed over the captaincy in 2009 for the first time replacing Younis Khan. Later he was made captain of the One-Day and Test teams as well.

He has led Pakistan in 19 T20s between 2009-11, losing 11 and winning eight matches.

He also captained Pakistan to the semifinals of World Twenty20 in the West Indies in 2010 before losing in the semifinals to Australia.
