ISLAMABAD-
A local court on Monday accepted Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) petition and ordered police to register a case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif, two federal ministers and three Inspector General for the killing of PAT workers in Islamabad’s Read Zone , a private news channel reported.
A petition was submitted by PAT with District and Session Judge Raja Jawad Abbas’s court under section 22-A.
The petition sought registration of a case against the PM, CM Punjab, cabinet ministers and government officials over killings of protesting workers the Red Zone on August 31.
Petitioner Umar Riaz Abbasi’s lawyer Ibrar Raza told court that the protestors were peaceful but police opened fire, killing two PAT workers and injuring dozens on the orders of the PM and Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan.
He further said that an application was also submitted in the Secretariat Police Station to register a case but the police did not take any action.
Defence lawyer Chaudhry Abdul Aziz argued that the administration had not issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the protesting parties to enter in the Red Zone and the one issued was only for Aabpara Chowk.
He added that PAT and PTI violated the set terms and protestors also pelted stones at the policemen and broke the Parliament’s gate and fence.
After the arguments concluded from both side, the court issued orders to register a case against PM Sharif, CM Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Railway Minister Saad Rafique, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, IG Islamabad, IG Railway, Commissioner Islamabad and other high officials.
