City police chief demands increase in resources

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo has demanded increase in police force and resources to enhance the effectiveness of Karachi operation.

He said due to scarcity of resources and lack of enough police force, the operation could not achieve the desired results.

Thebo has written a letter to the Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) highlighting the limited resources, lack of police force and suggested initiatives to boost police capabilities to tackle crime and terrorism in the city.

Thebo also highlighted that due to limited number of policemen and lack of communication devices and weapons, the Karachi operation could not get expected results.

In his letter, the AIG demanded immediate recruitment of 10,000 police constables in Karachi police besides recruitment of 1000 retired army personnel.

To improve patrolling and vigilance in the city, he suggested buying 100 cars, 200 pickups, 500 motorcycles, 100 bullet-proof vehicles and 50 bullet-proof armoured vehicles.

The AIG suggested equipping police with modern weapons with buying of 5000 9 mm pistols, 50,000 bullets, 5000 SMGs, 50,000 bullets, 10,000 bullet-proof jackets and 10,000 bullet-proof helmets.
