ISLAMABAD–

A local court on Saturday sent 100 workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) to jail on a 14-day judicial remand, a private news channel reported.

Out of hundred, 91 workers belong to PTI while the remaining are PAT workers.

According to spector General (IG) Islamabad Police Tahir Alam, the workers were arrested for attacking state institutions and  violation of Section 144 that prohibits gathering of more than five persons.

Earlier today, a large number of agitated PTI workers surrounded the police van carrying the arrested workers to F-8 court and chanted anti-government slogans.

PTI workers also deflated tyres of the police van to prevent it from moving forward.

A heavy contingent of police personnel arrived at F-8 Kachehri to control the situation.

The IG had warned that protestors will be arrested if they do not leave the court premises.

He said that it is the police’s duty to disperse a crowd that violates Section 144 of the law but, he added, the police would not use force against protesters.

Following the warning, police arrested PTI leaders Azam Swati, Andaleeb Abaas and several other party workers into custody.

PTI spokesperson Shireen Mazari strongly condemned the arrests while PTI also announced to suspend talks with the government until the worker were released.
