National Assembly Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah has said that Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif must take notice of those exploiting the army’s name for political purposes.
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader said that confronting the Parliament means fighting with the people and the COAS would certainly fight those standing up against Parliament and judiciary, thereby challenging the public mandate. Shah added that the Army has remained neutral though it was said many times that the army would take over.
Responding to a question, he denied that the government was using the Parliament to save itself from the ongoing protests.
Reiterating that PPP is fighting for the Parliament and not for Nawaz Sharif, Shah said that PPP has rendered many sacrifices for democracy and the existing political crisis would also be resolved through the Parliament.
Vowing to protect the Constitution till his last breath, Shah said that the Constitution provides for the PM’s removal if a two-third majority approves a no-confidence motion in the NA, adding that the government cannot be ousted by “playing songs and music”.
The opposition leader criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for using foul language against rivals in his speeches.
