SC gives last chance to police for arresting, investigating real culprits in anti-judiciary banner case
While giving last chance to the police for arresting and investigating the real culprits in anti-judiciary banners case, Supreme Court (SC) sought report from Islamabad Police inspector general and interior secretary till September, 24.
As a three-member SC bench headed by CJP Nasirul Mulk took up the case for hearing Wednesday, the CJP remarked, “Incident of placing anti-judiciary banners took place in May and now September has set in and police is only investigating the matter. When will it finally apprehend the culprits? Last chance is being given to the police for arresting and investigating the real culprits.”
A report was filed from Islamabad inspector general police in the court whereby police has sought two weeks time more for conducting final investigation.
Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Khawaja Ahmad Hussain told the court that police investigation is underway. Police has completed the checking process of mobile phone data of prime accused Rashid. Important data of 29 persons has also been found therein. Investigation is continuing in respect of 17 persons. The accused Rashid remained in contact with a senior journalist and during this period he remained in contact with Federal Union of Journalists but he himself is not a journalist.
Asif Taufiq and Ahsanud Din Sheikh said that police is not taking action against the real culprits deliberately. Police has not told so far who was the senior journalist with whom the prime accused remained in contact. So much time has been elapsed and police performance is next to nil.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till September 24.
