Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has suggested that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri be tried for treason, as Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that though the government has reached an agreement with PTI over five of the party’s six demands, the demand for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation has been categorically rejected.

ELECTORAL REFORMS ACCEPTABLE TO ALL:

Speaking in a joint parliamentary session on Wednesday, Dar said that PTI’s demands regarding electoral reforms and reconstitution of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) have been accepted.

“Three of PTI’s demands are related to the future democratic system in Pakistan and no political party opposes those demands,” said Dar.

Dar, who is part of the government’s team formed to negotiate with PTI, said that a summary of the procedure of investigation of constituencies and terms of references of judicial commission will be worked out soon.

“We can only request and not direct the chief justice of Pakistan to head the judicial commission,” he said.

TRY KHAN, QADRI UNDER ARTICLE 6:

Meanwhile, in a fiery speech on the floor of the House, Rafique criticised Khan and Qadri for “spreading hatred”.

“Khan provoked the people for civil obedience and Qadri incited his followers to violence and terrorism.”

Rafique alleged that Qadri congratulated his supporters for “capturing significant buildings” after PAT supporters vandalised Pakistan Television (PTV) headquarters.

Lashing at the PTI chief, Rafique said, “Under what constitutional provision did Khan invite the law enforcers to join his sit-in?”

He alleged that Khan issued the call to march towards Parliament House after Sheikh Rasheed “whispered something in his ear”.

He said that those calling for revolution are not conversant with the Constitution and Khan is unaware of how parliamentary proceedings are conducted.

SIT-INS ARE AN ASSAULT ON CONSTITUTION:

Calling the PTI and PAT sit-ins an assault on Constitution, Rafique said, “Violent sit-ins do not take place in any civilised country of the world,” and called these sit-ins an assault on the Constitution.

“The show of sit-ins has flopped. The parliament will jointly defend any extra-constitutional move against the democratic system in the country,” he said, adding that PTI and PAT chief should be tried under Article 6 of Constitution “if the parliament desires”.

“The parliament cares for democracy and not Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz,” asserted Rafique.

Rubbishing Khan’s claim that a “third umpire” might call the shots, Rafique said that no umpire would come as all institutions are working within the ambit of the Constitution and law.

He said that recounting in NA-1 would be an eye-opener.

Calling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khatak a “part-time CM”, the minister questioned the quality of governance in KP.

“KP has become the epicentre of polio,” he said, recalling that Khattak did not resign when terrorists attacked Dera Ismail Khan Jail.

Accusing Khan of promoting “immodesty”, Rafique said that Khan’s and Qadri’s children are enjoying abroad whereas children of the common man are suffering in the sit-ins.

He alleged that Khan has property abroad and has also squandered money of Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Muscat.

Referring to Khan’s Bani Gala residence, Rafique said, “How could a person living in a 300-kanal house talk about change?”

The minister urged PTI to return to the parliament, adding that their return will not be considered as their failure.

  1. what a hypocrite who has come through rigged election….? he should be tried under article 62 & 63 instead.

  2. KH. Saad Rafique is absolutely right. These two trouble makers one of whom is a Canadian national and a foreign agent should both be imprisoned and a precedent should be set for anyone who tries to destroy Pakistan using street power comprising paid pashtoons.

  3. Wil this Scoundrel return the consfiscated land of the Railways on which he is developing his Real Estate! If we had Supreme Court which was not controlled by the Puppet Master who appointed the full bench to safe guard his own vested interest! This Apex Court would declare the May 2013 elections invalid and ban those politicians involved in the racket from contesting the elections for next 20 years and members of their family for 10 years.

  4. Khawaja Saad Rafique must submit to accountability viz a viz his real estate dubious dealings and the faulty government construction contracts, that he is getting inspite being a minister. People in glass houses should not throw stones at others
