IHC orders govt to form committee for employees’ regularisation

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the federal government to constitute a committee in the supervision of the establishment secretary and comprising of federal secretaries to examine the criteria of regularisation of contract employees and give its recommendations within three months.

The court in its order further directed the committee to decide the matter of those contractual employees which were not regularised by the respective departments even after the recommendations of previous cabinet committee.

A single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Athar Minallah resumed hearing of a plea filed by hundreds of contractual employees, seeking regularisation of them on the recommendation of the pervious government’s cabinet subcommittee.

During the course of hearing, counsel for the petitioners apprised the bench that their departments forwarded names to the previous regularisation committee for regularisation of employees and the committee approved their names but department was not issuing regularisation letter to them. He prayed the court to direct the federal government to regularise their services as thousands of employees had been regularised in the light of the same previous cabinet’s committee recommendations.
