Former president Pervez Musharraf’s defence counsels Tuesday submitted in special court the summary which was allegedly sent to him by former prime minister Shaukat Aziz for imposition of emergency in the country. The court however rejected the summary, saying that it had to be verified before making it a part of treason case proceedings.
Upon prosecutor Akram Sheikh’s objection, the court directed verification of documents. The defence counsel agreed to send summary to Aziz and the Pakistani High Commission in London for verification.
As the three-member bench presided over by Justice Faisal Arab took up the high treason case for hearing, defence counsels interrogated a prosecution witness, Federal investigation Agency (FIA) officer Maqsoodul Hassan.
Hassan told the court that the investigation team had interrogated several people including two governors, however no evidence against any other except Musharraf was found. No proof of involvement of some other institution in enforcement of emergency has been found, he added.
Upon this, Musharraf’s counsel Farogh Nasim questioned the need for recommending extended investigation if evidence was not found against anyone else.
Hassan said that it was not correct that investigations were made against Musharraf. No access was provided to the record despite a contact with Defence Ministry. Therefore, it was recorded that if someone else was involved, he should be identified.
The hearing of the case was adjourned till Thursday.
