Islamabad High Court (IHC) has admitted for hearing petitions seeking registration of case against private television channel GEO for “maligning Army and ISI chief” and sought a reply from Kohsar Police Station SHO within 7 days.
The petitions were filed by Pakistan Chamber of Commerce former chairman Mirza Abdul Rehman and Advocate Malik Zafar Iqbal.
A single bench of IHC comprising Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi took up the petitions for hearing Monday.
Ali Nawaz Kharal, counsel for the petitioners told the court during the hearing of the case that the private TV channel launched a campaign against the Army and ISI chief some time back and army and ISI chief were maligned through this campaign all over the world.
He told the court that the owner, management and employees of this channel are involved in the campaign. The petitioners have nominated the owners and management of the channel. Petitions were filed in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Zeba Chaudhry, seeking registration of case against the owners and management of GEO for defaming army and ISI but the subordinate court did not accept the petitions, he added. Upon it the petitioners resorted to IHC and filed petitions for registration of cases, he contended.
On completion of hearing, the court issued notice to the Kohsar Police Station SHO and sought a reply from him within seven days.
The hearing of the case was adjourned for seven days.
