*Monsoon rains claim 33 more lives

The catastrophic rain-related incidents have claimed thirty-three more lives in Lahore on Sunday, local media reported.

More than 140 people have been killed due to the three days of heavy monsoon rains in the province. The death toll is expected to rise as the MET authorities have warned that more intense rainfall and floods might hit the country.

Majority of the deaths reported across Punjab have been due to roof collapses and electric shocks.

Though the rains have stopped after four days, the destruction caused by the heavy rains continues to plague several cities of Punjab. Incessant rains have damaged thousands of houses and a similar incident of roof collapse resulted in the death of a young boy in Hafizabad.

Meanwhile, in the Shadiwal town of Gujrat, a man was drowned in a flash flood. Also, in Rawat, three men were trapped under the wreck of their collapsed house.

Earlier, two deaths were also reported from the growing industrial city of Daska, however, the death toll from the city has now increased to four over the past two days.

The monsoon-triggered floods have claimed two lives in both Sialkot and Tehsil Pasrur. However, two of the three people caught in a heavy flash flood in Chawinda town Pasrur were rescued by the Pakistan Army soldiers.

A man was drowned in the flood waves in the tribal district of Khushab.

In Mehran village Mandi Bahawaudin, two men identified as Rehmat and Mehmood were drowned in the stormy flood waters.

A minor girl was also caught by the heavy flood waves triggered by the monsoon rains in Ahmednagar Gujranwala. The Pakistan Army, however, succeeded in searching for her dead body and handed it over to her family.

Five children fell into an uncovered storm drain in Renala Khorad resulting in the death of three while two of them were rescued. Two children were trapped and killed in a house collapse incident in Phool Nagar’s town Bhagyana Kalan.

Similarly, in Kasur, a woman and two men were killed while two were critically injured as their house collapsed following the frequent torrential rains. Meanwhile, the bridge connecting the two rivers of Sohan and Chakwal was destroyed due to the flash floods gripping for over past four days.
