A plan to make Lahore’s three major arteries, Mall Road, Jail Road and Gulberg Main Boulevard, signal-free is in the pipeline and Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) has already started a study in this regard, Pakistan Today has learnt.
It is expected that within the next 10 days, TEPA will present the proposal of a plan to make Mall Road, Jail Road and Gulberg’s Main Boulevard signal-free. The plan will be based on the formula of signal-free Ferozepur Road.
Per reports, Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General (DG) Ahad Khan Cheema has directed TEPA to conduct a traffic study on the three aforementioned roads.
TEPA officials are expected to finish the traffic count at every important junction on these three roads in the next 10 days. The project is being supervised by TEPA Senior Director Planning Khalid Alavi.
According to sources, after the traffic study is completed, TEPA will send its proposals to the LDA DG.
“The proposals may include the construction of underpasses or flyovers at various choking points of the three arteries, including at Shadman Chowk and Main Boulevard Favara Chowk,” the sources added.
