*ATC cancels MPA’s bail, police plans to seek remand to recover weapons used during attack

Khurrianwala police in Faisalabad have arrested Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab Assembly Member (MPA) Rana Shoaib Idrees after the Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Ishtiaq Ahmed cancelled his bail on Thursday.

The MPA along with some lawyers appeared before the court to attend the hearing as the police had submitted the case challan on Tuesday declaring him guilty of attacking the Khurrianwala Police Station and thrashing policemen.

Police have also arrested legislator’s ‘accomplices’ who accompanied him to attack the cops on July 19. The arrested are Sohail Aslam, Akram, Muzamil, Asif, Abu Bakr, Zakaria and Naveed.

Sources said the MPA’s accomplices had also not been joining the investigation.

A case under sections 7-ATA, 148, 149, 186, 224, 225, 440 and 553 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) had been registered with the Khurrianwala police against the MPA and dozens of his supporters.

Sources said the police standing board headed by SSP Investigation Bilal Umer had also rejected the MPA’s application for changing investigation.

The board members were of the opinion that investigation had been conducted on merit and there was no need for change.

MPA Idrees said the police had not provided him with an opportunity to know what charges had been levelled against him. He said Investigation Officer Inspector Asghar could not conduct fair probe being subordinate to Khurrianwala Station House Officer (SHO) Khalid Pervez, who was the complainant against the MPA.

CPO Sohail Tajik said that the police would seek remand of the accused to recover weapons they were holding during attack on the police station.
