The Sindh High Court (SHC) directed the federal law officer on Friday to summon reports from interior and defence ministries on whether two missing men allegedly picked up by law enforcers were kept in internment centres of Miran Shah or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A division bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Khawaz Alam who had gone to the court in earlier part of 2013 seeking whereabouts of his son, Saeed Alam, and nephew, Abdul Wahab, who, according to him, were picked up from his residence in Mauripur on February 11, 2013.
The petitioner said that personnel of Rangers and police raided his house and picked up his son and nephew on February 11, 2013. They also took away Rs 125,000 and gold ornaments weighing five tolas.
He told the judges that Rangers official had kept two detainees in illegal detention and demanded Rs 500,000 for their release. He said he had approached the higher officers of Rangers and police for release of two detainees but all in vain. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees in court.
Meanwhile, the court issued notice to the secretary defence, home secretary, Rangers director general, provincial police chief, SSP West and SHO Peerabad to file comments on a petition seeking recovery of three missing men.
The petitioner Momen Khan said that the law enforcement personnel unlawfully picked up his three sons – Shaheed Noor, NoorIslam and Atif Khan – from his Mangopir area on August 26. Since then they were missing. He requested the court to direct law enforcement officials to produce his sons in the court.
