City needs strong team of trained volunteers at Seaview

Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui has sought concerted efforts to develop a strong team of disciplined and well-trained volunteers, comprising local youths, to not only raise “beach safety awareness” among the citizens but also avert associated mishaps.

Addressing a beach safety awareness session organised by KMC in collaboration with Lions Club, he said the role of Rescue 1299, functional through the offices of the Sindh Governor House, could not be ignored.

“It were the trained personnel of the Rescue 1299 service who played extremely crucial role in saving precious human lives during the unfortunate incident at Seaview on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr,” he said.

The commissioner said that concerned members of the civil society, without wasting any further time, must assist the administration to avail off the capabilities of these trained workers and help develop a strong legion of well-trained rescue volunteers.

“Cosmopolitans like Karachi is in dire need of disciplined, dedicated and trained volunteers to brave any sort of disaster be it natural or otherwise,” he said.

Siddiqui said Karachi, home to thousands of youth, could be definitely achieve the target through concerted and coordinated efforts between government departments and civil society organisations.

The commissioner said there was also an urgent need to raise public awareness about essential beach safety measures.
