31 dead in rain-related incidents in Punjab

LAHORE-

Heavy rains in Punjab and Azad Kashmir killed at least 13 people, including women and children, a private news channel reported on Thursday.

Casualties in Lahore

15 deaths were reported from the provincial capital of Punjab.

Six members of a family, including two women, were killed when their house’s roof collapsed in Mozang Town of Lahore.

In GOR-II area of Lahore, a rooftop caved in, killing two people.

In Johar Town, one man was killed and four others were injured while in Manawa’n and Samanabad, two children and a woman, respectively, were electrocuted

In Defence, similar incidents killed three people.

A labourer was also injured in the same area when an under-construction building collapsed.

Low-lying areas of Lahore including Wasanpura, Garhi Shahu, Garden Town, Ferozpur Road, Mall Road, Gulberg and Iqbal Town were inundated due to overnight rainfall that began late on Wednesday and continued in to Thursday.

16 deaths across Punjab

In Sialkot, four people were killed in two incidents of roof collapse in Godhpur and Green Town areas.

Three people were killed when a roof caved in in Kamoki of Gujranwala district and a death was reported from Muzaffarabad.

In Faisalabad, three people died and 16 were wounded in different incidents.

Two brothers were killed while their sister was injured as a house wall collapsed in Kabirwala area of Khanewal.

In AJK, two people died while in Narowal, a young girl was reported dead while five others were reported injured.

 

Emergency state

An emergency state has been declared across Punjab and local administration has been put on high alert for rescue services.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Lahore recorded at least 123mm rain in the last 12 hours while the rain spell is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.

There is also a rain forecast for Sindh, Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This may trigger flooding of Jehlum and Sutlej rivers, it was added.
