Try rulers for treason for not upholding Constitution: Qadri

*PAT chief says rulers have violated Constitution by not implementing clauses related to provision of basic human rights

*Rebukes allegations of violating Constitution, having army’s support; says he never met army chief

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) head Dr Tahirul Qadri Tuesday called for the trial of rulers for treason over suspension of constitutional clauses relating to basic human rights.

Addressing protesters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and PAT from the PTI chief’s container, Qadri said that first 40 clauses of Constitution of Pakistan regarding rights of human beings remain suspended.

“We too stand by democracy. We are backing the constitution which is not being implemented by rulers,” he said.

The constitution guarantees education, employment, health and employment to every citizen, he said, adding, “We are here to ensure implementation of these clauses.”

The same rulers have been coming into power time and again for the last 41 years, he stated.

The PAT chief rejected allegations that PAT is backed by the army. “I take oath that I have never met the army chief,” declared Qadri.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif likes the present system because 24 members of his family are enjoying important positions in the government.

He said that PAT and PTI believe in the form of democracy which stands for 180 million people of Pakistan while the members of assembly believed in the democracy which stood for elites.

Criticising the government, Qadri said that Pakhtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai was trying to be the “champion of democracy” only because he used to be member of the National Assembly while his brother was Balochistan governor.

Talking about injuries to the protestors, Qadri said, “We did not have any axes. The government should show those people who got injured by axes.”

‘MAYBE PML-N MEMBERS ATTACKED PTV’:

The PAT leader again distanced himself from the assault on Pakistan Television headquarters by protestors of the anti-government parties. “There was no plan to storm the building of PTV. We disown and condemn it,” he said.

Qadri said that it was possible that the attack on PTV was actually carried out by members of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).

He said that he did not identify any of the people who had attacked the PTV building on Monday.

OF SHAHBAZ’S RESIGNATION:

Congratulating the protesters, Qadri said that because of public pressure, FIR of the Model Town incident has now been amended and sections pertaining to terrorism have also been added.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had pledged to resign if the judicial commission found him to be guilty.

“The judicial commission has now held the Punjab government responsible for the Model Town incident but Shahbaz has refused to resign. Is this the constitution?” Qadri asked.

Speaking on the occasion, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that he and Qadri would not leave the container unless PM Nawaz and Punjab CM Shahbaz resign.
