Seizure of the Pakistan Television (PTV) and other government buildings is terrorism and vandalism, said Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) President Shafqat Mehmood Chohan while addressing a press conference on Monday along with other office bearers.
Chohan criticised short seizure of the PTV building in Islamabad Red Zone by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers (PAT).
“Parties responsible for causing damage to state institutions should review their attitude,” Chohan demanded.
He said that the lawyers had always struggled for democracy and rule of law in the country. “If martial law is imposed then the lawyers will be the first to resist it on the roads before others,” he added.
He said that all stakeholders should resolve the issue peacefully through negotiations in the larger interest of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, LHCBA Secretary Ahmad Chachar said that lawyers would respond in case of any unconstitutional step.
Meanwhile, lawyers boycotted proceedings at the Lahore High Court as a protest against allegations levelled on lawyers by PTI chairman Imran Khan.
