Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq on Monday welcomed Supreme Court’s offer for mediation to end the political crisis in the country and urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri to accept the offer.

Speaking to reporters after meeting major parliamentary leaders, Haq said that the apex court is the most esteemed institution of the country and appealed to Khan and Qadri to settle the political impasse through the SC’s mediation.

Haq said a dark chapter was added to the country’s history because of the inflexible attitude and policies of both the parties.

‘There is not much time left now and steps should be taken without further delay,” said Haq.

“We want the political parties to find a solution to the problem,” he said, adding that JI is making efforts to defuse the tension and find out a solution.

Haq said that the army should stay out of the situation and let politicians settle the issue.

“Those who are looking for martial law are not sincere with the country and are pushing the army in the mess. We hope the army will put its weight behind the constitution and democracy,” said the JI leader.

The JI chief said that all political parties participating in the meeting condemned the vandalism of PTV Headquarters and Parliament House building.
