India concerned over developments in Pakistan

Expressing concern over developments in Pakistan, Indian government Monday said Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MoEA) is closely watching the situation in the neighbouring country.

“What is happening in Pakistan is definitely a matter of concern. MoEA looks at it minutely,” Indian Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters.

He was reacting to a query on developments in Pakistan as thousands of supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadiri battle with the police since Saturday in Islamabad demanding immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

A day earlier, addressing a press conference in Jaipur, Javadekar said that former Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee used to say that you can choose a friend, not a neighbour.

“Pakistan is our neighbour. We are always worried about Pakistan and what is happening in Pakistan,” said the minister.

Voicing concern over frequent ceasefire violations, he had also cautioned Pakistan that it should avoid increasing tension along the border as it would not be beneficial to it.
