Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Kamran Murtaza Tuesday said that the judiciary has no relationship with political parties and urged politicians not to involve courts in political affairs.

Lahore High Court Bar Association President Shafqat Chauhan said that lawyers had activated All Pakistan Lawyers Coordination Committee, comprising representatives of all Bar associations. He condemned police torture of media persons covering the sit-ins of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT).

The lawyers also condemned the attack on the building of state-owned Pakistan Television (PTV). The people who damaged state properties were not unarmed and innocent citizens, added Chauhan.

Lahore HCBA Multan President Azhar Bukhari said that the SC could resolve the current political turmoil and stressed that PTI and PAT should avoid taking any step which may endanger the country’s security.

LHBA Rawalpindi president said that the lawyers were not indulging in politics. “Our main objective is to protect fundamental human rights,” he said.

“The protestors were occupying state buildings in the name of democracy and it should not be allowed at any cost,” he said.

Islamabad HCBA President Sajjad Afzal Cheema said that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure and safeguard the fundamental rights of citizens. He urged PTI and PAT to end the deadlock with the government and try to solve the issues within the parameters of the constitution. “Everybody is bound to follow the apex court’s orders,” he said.
