Claiming that the current political crisis was “scripted”, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) President Javed Hashmi Monday claimed that PTI Chairman Imran Khan told him that the Army had allegedly urged him to align with Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT)’s Tahirul Qadri and combine their two protests.
“He [Khan] told us, ‘they’ say move forward with Tahirul Qadri. He said we cannot move forward without Army. He told us that he has settled all the matters and that there will be elections in September,” said Hashmi during a press conference.
“Imran had told the core committee it won’t be called a martial law. We will file a petition in the Supreme Court and get a judge of our choosing…and he will say okay. That CJ will validate the actions that will be taken eventually. Today I have heard that CJ has called all judges. Justice Jilani will retire and the current CJ will become chief justice and they will get rid [of the government],” the politician added.
Moreover, Hashmi said that the whole party leadership had warned Khan on joining forces with Sheikh Rasheed, telling him that he would “ruin him”.
Hashmi went on to allege that Khan was working on an agenda, adding that Khan had made him a promise that he would not support martial law but went on to break it.
The PTI president said that Khan does not care for the Constitution of Pakistan, adding that he acts as the king of his party.
“Khan accepts the Constitution only when it works in his favour. When it doesn’t, he abandons it.”
Furthermore, he denied the claims made by PTI and Khan that he solely opposed the chief’s decision to move forward, saying that Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Jehnagir Tareen, Pervaiz Khattak and Arif Alvi also opposed the decision.
Reacting to Khan’s announcement on Saturday about Hashmi, he said that he was still PTI’s president as Khan had not chosen the constitutional way to sack him from the party post yet.
