The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has denied that the country’s top spy agency, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) or Pakistan Army were in any way involved in the protest demonstrations being staged in Islamabad by the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

An ISPR press release said that the Pakistan Army supports democracy unconditionally and involving it in political issues is unfortunate. The statement said that the army has extended support to democratic governments on several occasions, adding that Pakistan Army was apolitical.

The ISPR statement comes in wake of PTI President Javed Hashmi’s allegations against his party chairman Imran Khan that he was being supported by the army in the anti-government campaign.
