Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has nodded to appoint another batch of 1,000 retired army soldiers in addition to induction of further 10,000 police personnel during the current financial year.
The chief minister also directed the IG police to complete the purchasing process of 5,000 bullet-proof jackets and 100 bullet-proof mobiles within shortest possible time and also to submit complete PC-I for establishment of DNA Lab at Karachi, which according to him, was very much essential for detection of evidence and criminals.
The chief minister also directed the home department to submit the proposal for separating 4 to 5 anti-terrorism courts and specifying same only to try the cases relating to ongoing targeted operation and also to arrange trial of high profile cases. He directed the officers not to stop the ongoing peaceful protest of PTI workers but to show their tolerance and deal with political protestors in such a way so that no party should be disturbed.
The chief minister directed this while presiding over the high-level meeting to review law and order situation in the province at CM House. Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon, Chief Secretary Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana, Secretary Law Mir Mohammad Shaikh, Advocate General Fatah Malik, Special Secretary Home Mohammad Nawaz Shaikh, Inspector General Sindh Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali, Commissioner Shoaib Siddiqui, Additional IGP Ghulam Qadir Thebo, the officers of LEAs, all DIGs of Sindh police and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
While addressing the meeting, the chief minister appreciated the efforts and achievements of LEAs and said that due to their efforts, there had became substantial reduction and even respite in some crime at Karachi and whole province.
However, he said, still there was lack of coordination between prosecution branch and investigation wing of Sindh police resulting in unsatisfactory conviction to the criminals from courts. He directed for close liaison between prosecution and investigation branches and directed the DIG concerned to ensure that challans presented in the courts were in order with proper evidences so that conviction rate should be increased.
He directed the home department to contact judiciary and submit the PC-I for separating 4 to 5 ATC courts only for the cases relating to targeted operation and arrange trial of high profile cases outside the city to ensure resulted-oriented and speedy trail of these cases of targeted operation.
He said they had recruited 10,000 police personals and 2,000 retired army soldiers during the last financial year and they were going to recruit more 10,000 police personals and 1,000 retired army soldiers during the present financial year.
While talking about sit-in protest by the PTI workers, the chief minister said they believed in democracy and peaceful protest was the legal right of each individual and organisation.
