A clash broke out between supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the police after PTI workers burn tyres and blocked the Liberty Roundabout, in order to protest against shelling of the security forces to disperse the marchers, from barging into the President House, in the capital.
Police, in order to disperse the crowd, fired tear gas shells and resorted to batton charge but failed to deter the protesters who pelted stones at them. PTI Punjab Assembly Member Dr Murad Rass was injured during the clash. Sources said that DIG Operations Haider Ashraf ordered the police to use force against the protestors.
Earlier, PTI supporters Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on Saturday staged a protest sit-in outside the Punjab Assembly on a call given by PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Following a deadlock in govt-PTI talks, Khan on Friday decided to mount pressure on the government by launching protests in four major cities – Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and Karachi.
Lahore’s sit-in, led by PTI’s Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader, Mehmoodur Rasheed and other provincial leaders of the party, was joined by a good number of PTI workers who chanted slogans against the PML-N government, calling for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to quit.
