The on-grid solar power system project has been designed to introduce a demonstration unit of solar electricity generation system in order to tackle energy shortage in the country.
Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Shoban Khalid stated this while talking to APP.
He said promotion of solar energy was the only affordable solution to effectively face the energy crisis. In order to develop the economy on sustainable basis, promotion of alternative energy resources – solar, wind and hydel was imperative – he added.
The CCI president said that Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) had taken several initiatives to resolve the challenges posed by rapidly expanding gap between demand and supply of conventional power.
Shoban Khalid said Pakistan was located in a region where sunlight was available 14-16 hours daily but it was fully exploited. “Solar systems are available for homes and shops which could be made more inexpensive through subsidy by the government,” he added.
Shoban asked solar companies to reduce their margins in launching on-grid solar power system in different areas of the country.
