*Baloch, Wattoo reiterate their parties’ commitment to supremacy of constitution

Former President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to Mansoora is the second visit of any head of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to the Jamaat’s headquarters after Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, said Manzoor Wattoo in a meeting with Jamat-i-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch who was accompanied by Fareed Paracha and Ehsan Ullah Waqas at his residence on Friday

Both the leaders reiterated their parties’ commitment to the supremacy of the constitution, upholding the cause of democracy and the rule of law.

Wattoo stated that the PPP had rendered countless sacrifices like jails, exiles, inflictions of lashes on workers and ultimate sacrifices of its great leaders for democracy and its preservation. The party was totally committed to uphold their legacy at all costs, he reiterated.

Wattoo appreciated the assiduous efforts of Jamat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq and Secretary General Liaqat Baloch to settle the prevailing deadlock politically. He added that under his leadership the party had earned popularity among the people of Pakistan as a democratic party, dedicated to the principled politics.

He maintained it would have been appropriate if the politicians have settled the issues by themselves without involving army that was deeply engaged in fighting the survival war of the country.

He further said that the whole political leadership should be standing behind army in the war against terrorism and extremism instead of involving it in internal politics.

Wattoo said that the mishandling of the Model Town incident by the Punjab government was mainly responsible for the political storm that unfortunately swept across the country.

He observed that after the abhorrent incident, if the Punjab chief minister had resigned and ordered the registration of the FIR without delay, the situation would have not taken the ugly turn paralysing the normal life in the country.

Baloch, while talking to the media, asserted that Parliamentary democracy was the essence of Pakistani politics and no deviation in this regard would be acceptable to democratic forces of the country.

He further said that General Raheel Sharif was a through professional soldier hoping he would facilitate the political solution within the ambits of the constitution.

He underscored the importance of investigations of election rigging by the judicial commission and of the Model Town incident as well.

He emphasised the importance of reforming the electoral process in the country to ensure fair, free and impartial elections in absolute terms.
