PTI to begin anti-rigging protests in four cities

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Friday announced that his supporters would hold protest demonstrations in four major cities of the country from Saturday (today).

Addressing the participants of his Azadi March, Khan said protest demonstrations would be held in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad and Lahore until Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stepped down from his office to pave the way for a fair probe into alleged rigging in last year’s general elections.

The PTI chairman also called on people to stop paying gas and electricity bills per his call for civil disobedience, saying this would build pressure on the government to consider his party’s demands seriously.

Earlier, Khan told his supporters that he had told Army chief General Raheel Sharif during their meeting on Thursday night that his party did not trust Sharif.

“How can a judicial commission be successful if Prime Minister Sharif is in power,” he questioned, while referring to the commission that will be formed to investigate irregularities in the May 2013 elections.

The PTI chief said that Sharif had, without any remorse or fear, destroyed the country. Khan maintained that the premier will have to step down “at all costs”, adding that those sitting in parliament were trying to prevent a fair probe into his party’s rigging allegations.
