Dollar reserves dip to $13.58b

The total liquid foreign reserves held by the country stood at US$13.581 billion up to August 22, reported the central bank Thursday.

A break-up of the foreign reserves position shows that during the week the State Bank held US$8.554 billion while the commercial banks’ reserves were counted at US$5.027 billion. The central bank’s reserves downed by US$349 million to US$8.554 billion compared to US$8.903 billion in the previous week.

During the week, the SBP made payments of US$165 million on account of external debt and other official payments, which include US$147 million payment to IMF under stand-by arrangement. There was no major inflow during the week, the bank said.
