Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan o Friday condemned the elements “functioning under the garb of democracy”while seeking to create chaos and overthrow a political setup, a private news channel reported.

Speaking on the floor of National Assembly, the interior minister said that the protesting parties are using women and children as human shields.

” They are doing politics of dead bodies to wrap up the system. They have dug up mass graves outside Parliament and are wearing shrouds. They want their people to be killed,” he said.

Nisar added that the civil society and parliament stand behind the government and will not let the parties from fulfilling their agendas.
“Pakistan is now at the crossroads,” he said.
Nisar added that ‘media and a few groups’ are challenging the elected parliament and the constitution.

Speaking about army mediatory role in ending the political deadlock, Nisar said that the protesting parties were unwilling to pay heed to any solutions offered by any other institution ( judiciary and opposition parties) and so the government had no choice but to turn to the army as the last resort.
“If they do not trust anyone what option did the government have?”, he said.

He said that the army was only brought in to mediate after both parties requested it.

“Bringing the army in to mediate was one of their demands,” he said.

The minister went on to clarify that the army stood with the government over the current political turmoil.

The army  is working to bring a peaceful solution to this crisis within the Constitution, he said.

“They (the protesting groups) used the name of Army”, he said adding, “ This is not PTI or PAT’s army. This is Pakistan’s army”.

He said that the army, supposed to be present in the North Waziristan where a military operation goes on against militants, is instead in the Red Zone in Islamabad because these parties have brought them here.
