Economic growth impossible without consumers’ rights

The country’s economic growth could be possible on sustainable basis only if consumer’s rights are protected in true letter and spirit with emergence of competitive environment in markets of goods and service.

Speaking as a chief guest, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar stated this on the occasion of 9th Consumers Choice Awards held here on Wednesday, organized by Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP).

He said the consumer courts should be established and empowered to protect the rights of the consumers in the country whereas companies of different sectors should ensure their rights keeping in mind that these people are their business partners whose contribution are vital in development and growth of their business.

He said the consumer rights protection should be priority of the government because these are people who elect their representatives and ultimately the government, hence it is prime responsibility of the policymakers to come up with regulation framework to ensure consumers rights in the country.

Sarwar further said the consumers rights protection is vital for the country to bring investment in the country because it leads to bring competition in different fields of business and benefits to layman in terms of high quality in the products and services against reasonable prices and charges.

The governor added that reputed multinational companies ensure compliance of consumers rights in their operations and business because they believe that their success lies in the satisfaction of their partners.

He added that awareness for consumer rights was indispensable through various seminars and conference and the role of Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP) is laudable for its continuous and tireless efforts in playing constructive role in the society.

The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards to different companies having exemplary role in assuring rights of consumers with their goods and services.

Provincial Minister for Trade and Industries Rauf Siddiqui said the multinational and national companies should enhance their level of production and services for fulfilling the needs of the consumers amid gratifying experience. He urged companies to extend their cooperation with consumers association which is best in the interest of their business and image.

On the occasion, Consumers Association of Pakistan Chairman Kukab Iqbal, Provincial Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar also addressed the participants. Prominent personalities also attended the event including Akhtar Farooqui, Administrator KMC, Shoaib Siddiqui, Commissioner Karachi and others.
