A reference has been filed before the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for the disqualification of Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) Buland Akhtar Rana.
The reference has been filed under Article 209 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, said a press release issued by the National Assembly Secretariat on Monday.
During a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) held on March 5, 2014 the attention of the committee was invited towards a news item published in a local Urdu daily regarding illegal withdrawal of excess salary and privileges by the AGP.
After detailed deliberations, the PAC under Rule 224 (1) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007 constituted a sub-committee to probe the matter. The sub-committee finalized its report and submitted it to the PAC.
The PAC in its meeting held on August 5, found Rana guilty of misconduct and unanimously approved the report of the sub-committee after discussion.
The committee decided to place a special report of the Public Accounts Committee under Rule 234, before the Assembly.
The subject report was presented in the National Assembly on August 11. After consideration and discussion the House adopted the report unanimously.
