The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday notified an increase of Rs 0.43 per unit in power tariff under monthly fuel adjustment mechanism.
Discos will collect an additional amount from the consumers in the bills of August 2014. Nepra maintains that the cost of power generated by diesel oil and furnace oil was high.
Inexplicably, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had sought an increase in tariff but the regulator allowed the companies to raise tariff by Rs 2.24 per unit.
It had pleaded that power companies should be allowed to increase the tariff by Rs 0.43 per unit to recover the additional cost. Lifeline consumers who consume up to 50 units per month and consumers of K-electric, formerly Karachi Electric Supply Company, would not be affected by the tariff revision.
