The federal government has decided to increase power tariff by 4 per cent from October to meet the IMF conditions.
On the other hand, distribution companies (DISCOs) have sought approval of NEPRA for raising the tariff by 50 per cent.
According to reports, NEPRA would consider the applications for PESCO and FESCO for increase in the power rates during the current week after hearing the stake holders. It is worth mentioning that the DISCOs are seeking approval for transferring the losses from power theft, transmission and distribution on the consumers.
The IMF is to release the next tranche of $ 550 million after fulfilment of its conditions including increase in power rates.
