National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on Sunday convened a meeting of the parliamentary heads of all political parties in the National Assembly to hold consultations on Monday evening over the resignations submitted by National Assembly members belonging to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The meeting, which is expected to take place at the Speaker’s chambers, was convened on the proposal presented by NA Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah belonging to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

Speaking to a local news outfit, Shah said that he had spoken to the NA speaker and conveyed to him that the resignations of the PTI lawmakers should not be accepted in haste, adding that approval of the resignations would not prove helpful in defusing the prevailing political crisis.

Answering a question about former president Asif Ali Zardari’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Shah said that PPP fully supported the democratic system and any extra-constitutional measure would rather be rejected with full force.

Shah said that Zardari would present the key points of his meeting with premier during a meeting of PPP’s central executive committee (CEC).

He added that the party’s future course of action would be decided by achieving consensus in the CEC session, adding that he would reach Islamabad from Karachi after attending the meeting.

The veteran PPP leader also rejected reports that the PM had offered Zardari to become the president of Pakistan as was reportedly alleged by Pakistan Awami Tehreek senior leader Amir Fareed.
