Member of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Justice (retd) Riaz Kayani on Monday refuted the allegations leveled by former additional secretary Afzal Khan regarding the rigging in May 11, 2013 elections, reported a private news channel.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore , Justice (R) Kayani termed the allegations bogus and a conspiracy and said that Khan had made false claims for not being given an extension in his services under prescribed rules.
He added that he will be taking legal action against the former additional secretary .
In an interview to a private TV channel on Sunday night, Afzal Khan had alleged that former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, justice (retd) Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Justice (retd) Riaz Kayani and former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim were also involved in the rigging.
He said Justice (retd) Riaz Kayani ruined elections 2013 and he was responsible of 90 per cent of its destruction.
“Hundreds of punctures (constituencies) were fixed (rigged) in the last year’s elections not just 35 as believed earlier”, he said.
He further alleged that the former CJ appointed the ROs, a job supposed to be done by the Election Commission while CEC Ebrahim kept silent and did not take notice of the solution.
this is serious allegation against 2 ex chief justice and another ex justice,it should be investigated by independent and impartial panel….if the allegation is true,their pension should be stopped and all their verdict should be review…this is height of moral degradation…
Poor Justice Kayani,
I know him to be an upright person. I had the privilege of being a student of his in my law school.
I also saw Afzal Khan in a programme shortly before elections where he was singing praising of how much the Election Commission had done to ensure exemplary elections. One of the other guests in the programme, I think his name was Amir Rana, highlighted some problem areas and Afzal Khan was so upset he called Rana an American agent. I am shocked at how low this man has stooped presumably to please IK or his masters.
Shame on Afzal Khan.
If this is true than shame on us as a nation.
whatever is cooking bringing us the truth slowly that what used to happen in high streets on powers and money granted by the people of Pakistan. The day will come soon when people of Pakistan will exercise their fundamental right to decide the fates of the culprits same as in west. Then they will be having no place to hide.
Somebody please do the most decent thing and give these poor people the answers they are looking for. Go and find the ballot papers and investigate these most serious allegations. The people have a right to know the truth – one way or the other.
