  • Although the report hasn’t directly held Shahbaz Sharif responsible for killings, yet it has recommended FIR against all persons nominated by Minhajul Quran

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report on Lahore’s Model Town incident released Monday has not held Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif responsible but has recommended registration of first information report (FIR) against the Punjab CM, former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah and Punjab CM’s principal secretary Tauqeer Shah as per the demand of the Minhajul Quran International.

The JIT comprising members of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI), Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Punjab Police, prepared its report over the clash between Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and police after the lapse of two months and recommended that murder case be registered against the people mentioned in the report.

According to the report, the police did not follow the proper procedure of reporting and investigation and removed all the forensic evidence before submitting the report. The enquiry report submitted by police on Model Town Incident contains the details of the events that occurred on the day of incident only, the JIT observed.

Moreover, it has been highlighted that the intelligence agencies did not mention Punjab CM or his role in the Model Town Incident, however, the investigations are still underway.
